National Dessert Day! 10/14/2010
Sugar Fix Addicts, Hello! I have good news and not so great news that I’d like to share with you guys. The good news is that I got a new job in Center City (as you all know, I love Philadelphia, so I’m pretty happy about that) and so far, I really like it. As a matter of fact, I would go so far as to say that it rocks. It’s a relaxed atmosphere, but I expect it will get challenging soon and I’m excited about that too. Other good news- TODAY, October 14th is National Dessert Day! Go get something yummy to snack on and enjoy it! Fortunately, and I’m not sure if anyone has ever told you this little secret, but on National Dessert Day, all diet rules are null and void. My suggestions (and some of my favs that I’ve mentioned in the past): Desserts by Design in Audubon, NJ- For any of the luscious little mini desserts that the owner makes daily. Melrose Diner in Philadelphia, PA- Stop whatever you’re doing and go for the Buttercream Layer Cake. Right now. Seriously. Remember, everybody who knows, goes to Melrose. The Chocolate Box in Lambertville, NJ- Again, one of my favorite candy stores. Not just your standard chocolate shop, The Chocolate Box has some imaginative and savory truffles and “savories” that I highly recommend. Philly Cupcake in Philadelphia, PA- Delightful and dainty cupcakes on beautiful window displays, also known as the Cupcakery Boutique. Can’t leave out the cupcakes. The Last Temptation Ice Cream Shop in New Hope, PA- A very special ice cream shop that is dear to my heart, as before I knew that my favorite flavor came from a place called Thomas Sweet’s in Princeton, The Last Temptation (and the Meltdown on LBI that is now closed for the season) was the only place that I knew where to get the elusive- Chocolate Chip Cookie. NOT Chocolate Cookie Dough, mind you, Chocolate Chip Cookie has got to be my top favorite flavor to date. I encourage everyone to try it at least once, but be prepared for a serious sweet factor. I believe they use brown sugar in this ice cream, making the entire cone one big scoop o’ sugar. Now for the not so great news- I am very excited about working at a new job, in a wonderful environment with some very nice people; however, with this means that I will be working full time and, as a result, will have less time for Sugar Fix. This is a reality that I unfortunately have to face, but don’t get too discouraged, Sugar Fix Addicts. Of course, I will still continue to make jewelry in my free time and my online shop will continue to run, but the blog posts might appear a bit more sporadic and it might take me a little bit more time to respond to some of your wonderful e-mails and comments. I do and have always appreciated your support and business from the beginnings of Sugar Fix and up until now. I promise not to disappear entirely and I will always share my sweet adventures with you guys no matter what. Check the official Sugar Fix twitter (http://twitter.com/SugarFixJewelry) for more frequent posts of food and fun! Sweetest wishes, Kate P.S.- While I don’t encourage the consumption of a Doughtnut Cheeseburger for health reasons, the video is still pretty cool. Sugar Fix Addicts, Hello! Culinary Adventure Day was a complete success. For those of you who follow the Sugar Fix twitter (https://twitter.com/SugarFixJewelry), you’ve already seen the photos from last weekend. I wore some new Sugar Fix pieces, including a new Scones and Tarts necklace to each location. My first stop was the Sugar Philly Truck (dessert first, of course!) on 38th and Sansom and although I didn’t get the chance to sample the Mexican Chocolate Cake (sold out!), I did try an amazing Almond Pear Tart that was to die for. My companion sampled the Vanilla Crème Brulee which was equally incredible. For those of you looking for dessert on the go in University City, stop by for some delicious treats. Follow the link to view their menu and more about them http://sugarphillytruck.com/ and check out the Sugar Fix twitter for photos. The second stop, conveniently located right around the corner, was Bobby Flay’s Bobby’s Burger Palace. I got the Dallas burger with a spice crusted beef, coleslaw, Monterey jack, BBQ sauce and pickles, minus the coleslaw; while my boyfriend sampled a Crunchburger with double American cheese and potato chips. Unfortunately, he realized after the fact that you can crunchify any burger, so we will definitely be back for more and to sample a spiked milkshake. The Vanilla Caramel Bourbon shake sounds way too good to pass up. Check out the other signature burgers at the BBP website: http://bobbysburgerpalace.com/. Lastly, I took a drive to my favorite candy shop, far from Philadelphia, in Lambertville, New Jersey. The Chocolate Box always has a variety of truffles, solid pieces and savory small bites from around the world in one small, but beautiful location. There is always something new and unusual to try from lavender and honey filled truffles, to Cheyenne pepper and sea salt chocolate nuggets, to chocolate bacon bars. The website, http://chocolateboxusa.com/, doesn’t offer much information, but does have a small photo of the shop. I have been traveling there for years and highly recommend it. I hope all of you have a chance to visit some of these awesome places. If you go, let me know! Take photos wearing my jewelry while ordering a burger or some lovely desserts. Sweetest wishes, Kate How will Sugar Fix Jewelry designer satisfy her sweet tooth tomorrow? The Sugar Philly Truck! 09/30/2010
Sugar Fix Addicts, Hello! Those of you who have been checking out the Sugar Fix twitter (https://twitter.com/SugarFixJewelry), you already know about the Sugar Philly Truck that is serving up some amazing desserts food truck style around 38th and Sansom. Following the most recent food truck trend, Groupon (again, I can’t say enough good things about this service) recently offered a coupon for “Two Grande Desserts” from the Sugar Philly Truck at half price. I will be stopping by tomorrow some time between 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. to get a taste of what sounds like some fabulous food. I will be sporting some new Sugar Fix pieces and I’m truly looking forward to my slice of “Spicy Mexican Layered Chocolate Cake filled with Spicy Buttercream and topped with Crumbs,” from straight off of their menu. For their schedule, menu and more information on the Sugar Philly Truck you can visit their website at: http://sugarphillytruck.com/. I can’t wait and I hope to see some of you there! Sweetest wishes, Kate New Discovery- How Sweet It Is Cupcake! 09/23/2010
Sugar Fix Addicts, Hello! I haven’t forgotten about you, I promise. So sorry that there was no blog last week, but I have been insanely busy again. I was in Philadelphia for nearly all day and didn’t get a chance to even sit down at a computer. As I mentioned previously, aside from making jewelry I also write for a Philadelphia-based music magazine called, OrigiVation. I finally got to interview Matt from Matt and Kim this week. The interview was supposed to be two weeks ago, but we just couldn’t sync our schedules. I only had 10 minutes to ask questions, but I got a lot of material covered in a little bit of time. I’m finishing up the article this week, so it should appear in November’s magazine (unless it will fit in October, but I doubt it). If you’d like to read my music reviews and articles to see what else I’m involved in apart from Sugar Fix, visit: www.origivation.com. I will be posting more Twitter Exclusives as I finish new pieces, so always be on the look out for those by following the Sugar Fix twitter (https://twitter.com/SugarFixJewelry). Last, but not least, I recently received a coupon through Groupon.com (amazing, by the way, I highly recommend you sign up) for a discount on cupcakes from the How Sweet It Is Cupcake Company (http://howsweetitiscupcake.com/) located in my hometown Moorestown, NJ. I’ve never even heard of this cupcake company before, but apparently their cupcakes are sold at the Pie Lady Café. I will definitely be checking it out and I’ll be sure to let you guys know how it is. Aside from that, anyone catch the new season of Hell’s Kitchen last night? Sweetest wishes, Kate Sugar Fix Addicts, I hope you all had a wonderful Labor Day weekend! Did anyone make it out to Chadsford for the Jazz and Wine Festival? I was hoping to, but I ended up at the beach instead as I realized the season will be changing soon and I wanted to see the ocean one last time while it was still warm enough to walk around. I did stop by the Crust & Crumb Bakery (http://bayvillagelbi.com/crust-and-crumb/) on Long Beach Island for a fabulous slim slice of chocolate cake while my boyfriend sampled the Key Lime pie. To see photos, visit the Sugar Fix twitter. In Sugar Fix news, I’m finally caught up with a lot of projects and very happy about it. I’ve also been doing some basic jewelry repairs, here and there, when they come to me. The Sugar Fix twitter (https://twitter.com/SugarFixJewelry) has been very active this month and I’m so glad to hear from some of you. Feel free to follow me via twitter to learn about upcoming Sugar Fix news and a little bit more about me and my adventures. Sugar Fix Addicts, Hello! As always, I’ve been very busy with not just Sugar Fix, but some side projects as well. As many of you know, aside from making jewelry I also write for a Philadelphia-based music magazine called, OrigiVation. Today, I get to interview Matt and Kim! I’ve prepared a number of questions for them that will guarantee a final story that isn’t your stereotypical Q&A. If you’d like to read my music reviews and articles to see what else I’m involved in apart from Sugar Fix, visit: www.origivation.com. Now about Sugar Fix- look out for the Twitter Exclusive today! I posted a bunch photos on the Sugar Fix twitter (https://twitter.com/SugarFixJewelry) of a few new pieces and some of my favorite things via Blackberry (sorry they’re a bit blurry! It’s the BB camera). These will only be posted on the twitter, so if you’d like to take a peek, follow Sugar Fix and check them out! If you see anything you like that hasn’t been updated on the website yet, drop me a line and I’ll give you additional details on any piece. And, while I’m constantly looking for fun events to attend, I figured I would share some info on the Labor Day Weekend Jazz and Wine Festival. For those of you in the Chaddsford, PA area, this sounds like a great time to enjoy food and wine, as well as some live music. For information on the festival, click: http://www.chaddsford.com/root/events/concerts.htm. Who knows? I might even see you there! Sweetest wishes, Kate Reaching out 08/12/2010
Hello Sugar Fix Addicts, I have been working lately on finalizing my logo and getting a banner printed for vendor shows, so you can all recognize me in the sea of tents at festivals and fairs. I have also been reaching out to different stores and boutiques in the South Jersey and Philadelphia area that might be interested in featuring Sugar Fix Jewelry. Think you know of a store near you where my jewelry would fit in? Drop me a line. Again, look for my jewelry at Johnson’s Corner Farm in Medford very soon. I’m looking at next Friday, but I’ll let you guys know first once it’s confirmed. I can’t wait to see you all there! (Johnson’s Farm has a bakery with all kinds of treats, of course!) In the meantime, I’m always looking for new bakeries and cafes to explore. Eatocracy on CNN.com has been posting little places to indulge in the best tasting sweets around the country. Got a bakery on your Main Street that has cupcakes or muffins to die for? Let me know! I’ll visit and, if I love it as much as you do, I’ll post about it on my twitter (http://twitter.com/SugarFixJewelry). More to come on dates and new places to get your Sugar Fix! Sweetest wishes, Kate P.S.- Speaking of Eatocracy, check out their video on the ChikaLicious Dessert Bar in New York @ http://tinyurl.com/25vjb8e. I think a daytrip is in order soon! Updates! 08/05/2010
Sugar Fix Addicts, Hello! First of all, it’s been quite a while since I’ve updated. My apologies. I’ve been pretty busy in my personal life, but I’m here to say that I’m going to do my best to update as often as I can. If you don’t hear from me via Sweet Nothings blog, feel free to visit the Twitter (http://twitter.com/SugarFixJewelry). I update at least once a day on everything from Sugar Fix news to some of my favorite local bakeries and chocolate shops. Secondly, I’ve made a lot of new pieces that are not on the website yet. Speaking of which, I’m looking for an intern photographer, preferably in South Jersey or the surrounding area. If you know anyone who might be interested, drop me a line. Lastly, you’ll be able to catch me at Johnson's Corner Farm in Medford, NJ very soon. Every Friday night from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Johnson’s features local artisans along with live music and great food. I will post exact dates as they come to me, via Sweet Nothings and twitter. Check back frequently for dates! Sweetest wishes, Kate Follow me 12/01/2009
